Spotlight: Bergen

When I was planning my trip to Europe I knew I wanted to visit Norway and my original thought was to only go to Oslo. As I was researching I decided to add Norway’s second largest city Bergen to my itinerary. The town located on the West Coast of Norway amongst mountains & fjords and it is breathtakingly beautiful.

I really wanted to take a fjord tour however, while I was there in April the tours were still operating on the winter schedule and the timing didn’t workout. I will have to save that for the next time I visit. The next best thing in my opinion was to take the the Fløibanen Funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen. It was slightly overcast the day I was in Bergen and I learned that as long as you can see the top of the mountain the views will be great from the top! Let me tell you they didn’t disappoint they were so amazing!IMG_6962

Make sure to check out the Troll Forest when you get to the top of Mount Floyen. It was so much fun finding lots of these trolls as I walked around. 8456AC9E-A8D8-408A-8371-6FECE9025112

I loved the Bryggen Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are cute shops and restaurants along the waterfront. Make sure to look down the alleyways as they offer more unique sites to see.

As I was walking along the wharf I came across the David Matej Goljat Gallery and made a purchase. I really enjoyed chatting with him and can’t wait to hang his original artwork in my house. I love his cup of paint brushes and couldn’t resist snapping a photo.

For my one night in Bergen I decided to stay at the Det Hanseatiske Hotel located on Bryggen along Hanseatic Wharf. It is a quirky hotel and I enjoyed staying here. My room was huge and I enjoyed the claw foot bathtub! It is located at the end of the Bryggen Wharf just a very short walk to the Fløibanen Funicular and fish market.

While trying to figure out the best way to get from Bergen to Oslo I decided to take the train. It is widely considered one of the most beautiful train routes in the world. It definitely lives up to the hype. If you have the opportunity to take the train I highly recommend it!
